Loss: How Essential it is for a Happy New Year

Let's lose it together this year! Loss is an inevitable part of life and can be extremely painful and difficult. Many people get absorbed by lose and it can affect every facet of their lives. Alternatively, lose is really is the only way we can make room for newer & better habits, thoughts and ways. With a new year beginning, it's a perfect time to choose what stays with you for the next 365 days and carefully select what you shed and leave behind. What habits, routines, beliefs are the ones that guide and feed towards your growth? What needs to stay in 2023 and what needs to be added for 2024?

You could be ready to lose a habit that you know is not good for you, such as too many days ending in a glass of wine, or those chocolates your keep stashed in a drawer for a guilty pleasure after a long day with the kids. Or how about the addiction to checking emails or social media or TikTok all day long. Maybe it's a person and relationship you need to back away from because you know it's not supporting your growth. Maybe it's a an old limiting belief that you hear yourself repeat in your mind daily, 'I can't find time for that', 'I'd never be able to do what she does. She is so organized, beautiful or better than me'. What would happen if we just took some small steps towards what we know is right for us by starting with one minute at a time, one day at a time, one routine at a time. We can change and evolve with one conscious shift in a routine or habit. So instead of waking and checking emails, socials and our calenders, we take 5 minutes to first, open a book that's been on our bedside table for a year or we have a quickie meditation moment, or go for an early morning walk around the block. Repurposing small increments of our daily lives, even if it's just for 5 min will help build new routines and shed those habits that don't feed our growth and actually take away from it. By interrupting a routine and introducing a new one, even if in smaller increments of time, we begin to shift of our trajectory. This means these slight changes build over time and multiply. We eventually create space that can allow light in and growth.

So let's collectively choose a new, clearer, unchartered, uncluttered path to take into the new year. Start the 2024 year lighter and with less baggage, less holding onto who and what we once were. Let's make space for something and to be someone new.

For me and this website, I will be pivoting my blog writings to be more centered around my expertise, which is children's yoga and mindfulness practices for families. My goal this year is to step into a more supportive and guiding role for parents and families. I hope to create more concrete offerings for families to help them find more zen and awareness and calm in their busy daily lives.
